Mimicking the women, strut around peacocks; like jewels
on their bosom, sun shines in the country; like their tresses,
clouds spread in groves; like their eyes,
fish leap around in redolent fields.
The verse is self explanatory. The unique thing in this verse is Kamban switches the comparing objects in similes. Normal practice is to say the women were like peacocks or their jewels glittered like sun’s rays. In this verse Kamban says that the peacocks were like women and sun’s rays were like jewels in their bosom. So the women are placed in a level higher than the peacock which is being compared to them instead of other way around. This is called எதிர்நிலை அணி in Tamil.
